How To Get Motivated In 5 Easy Steps
I just finished a call with a client that I am currently coaching on his business, at one point in the call I asked him what his biggest weakness was, he mentioned how he sometimes finds it difficult on how to get motivated and stay motivated. Of course, I have been in his position and I realised that we all need motivation and a lot of people get hit with the motivation slump more often than you think.
So I decided to write up this blog with the solutions that worked for me to stay motivated.
1. Have A Strong Why.
Most importantly on how to get motivated is to have a Why in life to fight for when times get hard in general and in business. If you have a Why that is bigger than yourself it will be much harder to quit than it will be to keep going, and it helps when you need motivating, which results in getting more stuff done.
An example of my Why is my daughter, Milly. I believe that if I didn’t have her in the back of my mind when things got a little rough, I probably would have contemplated quitting. Figure out your Why as soon as possible, until you have one that’s always with you on ventures, you will never know how empowering it is.
2. Have A Clear Vision.
A vision gives us passion – When we know why we’re here, when we’re emotionally connected to what we’re doing, we come alive. We can see our destiny before us. It gives us the drive and energy to do everything it takes to achieve it.
We live and dream about reaching our goal, and everything becomes part of the journey. I’ve had a vision board from when I started out in my bedroom at my parents’ house. Since I put one up I haven’t had to find out how to get motivated because I now understood what I have to work towards. The idea is to always be changing the images and ideas on there to keep the bigger vision updated.
3. Find A Mentor / Role Model.
I strongly agree that one of the best ways to stay motivated is being held accountable by a mentor. If you don’t have a mentor then you should definitely have at least 3 role models. A role model is someone you follow that is an expert of something that you would like to be in, you learn their habits and routines down to how they operate and ‘model’ them in your own unique way.
However, when you have a mentor their primary role to have a bigger vision for you than you have for yourself and it’s much more personal than just having a role model. Having a mentor shows you how to get motivated and stay motivated because you will always be pushed out of your comfort zone.
Here are some ideas on what you can do to find your ideal role model:
- Search for the person who has the characteristics that you’re looking to improve on. Example: Motivational Speaker, you will come across some of the top ranked speakers in the world that could potentially be your next role model.
- Find blogs / websites that resonate the most with you based on what content your model puts out.
- Sign up to their newsletter / mailing list and follow them on Social Media.
- Turning them from a role model to a mentor is as simple as reaching out to them on a personal level to find out if they’re willing to help you.
Expect to pay them for their time and knowledge, don’t begrudge paying because they may slice years of failures and instantly put you in the right direction.
4. Take A Moment To Recharge.
I have noticed when we work on ventures, sometimes you feel your motivation slumping. This is a sign from your body letting you know that it’s time to recharge and take a well-needed break. Times like this is when you find yourself searching ‘how to get motivated’.
There are times where I have pushed myself into early hours of the morning to finish designing something for a client, only to wake up to the disaster I created whilst being half asleep resulting in feeling even less motivated. Resulting in me spending double the amount of time to correct and reorganise everything. It was only then that I realised it is so important to rest as hard as you work, everything needs refuelling at some point or it will just burn out, including yourself.
5. Watch Motivational Content.
Everyone deserves a great pep talk every once in a while, or a kick up the ass (as I would call it). You can stay motivated by watching YouTube videos of inspirational speakers so you can suddenly feel a new sense of empowerment when you need motivation to keep striving. All it takes is somebody to plant a seed of interest in our mind and we’ll click.
I will list a few names below that always get me excited when I watch their content, in no particular order:
Eric Thomas, Gary Vaynerchuck, Tai Lopez, Jim Rohn, Bob Proctor, Grant Cardone.
I hope I could help you on how to get motivated and stay motivated, and if you ever need motivation – remember these 5 steps. I wish you the best of luck with your ventures.
